Be a Mentor

You can help one student succeed in school and avoid many pitfalls such as gangs, drugs, and teenage pregnancy which directly correlate to the current 55% high school drop-out rate!  Summit Educational Association, a volunteer based tutoring and mentoring program located in the Kosciuszko Community Center on 7th and Lincoln Ave, is looking for volunteers to tutor and mentor 4th - 8th grade mainly Hispanic students in the area.

Summit is structured.  Summit provides an initial orientation and continual support to volunteers who work each week with their assigned student in a classroom environment for 1 hr 15 min to help them with academics and character development (goal setting), and 45 min of organized sports. The program meets on weekdays from 5:00PM-7:00PM or Saturdays 10:00AM-12:00PM. (Boys meet Tues, Thurs or Sat & Girls meet Mon, Wed or Sat).  All parents participate directly in the process.

If you would like to be a part of the Summit experience first-hand, then come mentor at SummitSummit is now recruiting Tutor/Mentors for the Fall Semester 2009.  You may view our calendar for the current Fall schedule.  Please contact Phyllis Gaggioli or Ben Potts either by calling the Summit office at (414) 672-1786, or email them at  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

“What I really like about Summit is that my mentor helps me with my homework. Another thing I like about Summit is that we have gym and I get to jump rope or play wi th others. My goal for Summit is to improve my math skills.”

- Martha Castro, 5th Grader
