Making Math Fun!

For many students, Math is a difficult subject, and asking students to work on multiplication and division problems during the summer can be a little bit like pulling teeth. As part of the Academics we have at Summit, students have a 45 minute Math class every day...but they find them to be a lot of fun!

Students start each Math class with the "Problem of the Day," which is a word problem that they can apply to their everyday lives. Then they review a Math concept led by their Counselor on topics they have covered during the school year - anything from addition and subtraction, multiplication tables, to algebra! Students then go over practice problems in small groups with Junior Counselors and then independently to make sure they have a grasp on what they have learned.

At the end of class, students sometimes are rewarded for their hard work and get to play a competitive Math game and put the concepts they have learned to into practice. Not only is Math practical, it can be a lot of fun! Summit students gain confidence in their Math abilities during the summer so they go back to school ready for the next challenge!
